Safety Training

INITIAL SAFETY TRAINING

As employees of the University of Minnesota, the Department of Chemistry is required to provide you with initial safety training. You may complete this initial training via web-based tutorials or by taking the “in person” training provided by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (DEHS).

WEB-BASED INITIAL TRAINING

You may satisfy your initial safety training by viewing three web-based tutorials and successfully completing a short quiz for each. These tutorials cover the following subjects:

To access the tutorials go to:

http://www.dehs.umn.edu/training_newlabsafety.htm

Click on one of the tutorials - you will need to enter your Internet ID and password - and follow the on-screen instructions. Each tutorial concludes with a short quiz. If you successfully complete this quiz, you will receive an email stating that "a record of your training has been entered into your University training record". Please forward this email to: chuck1

IN-PERSON INITIAL TRAINING

You may also satisfy your initial safety training by participating in a safety workshop called Laboratory Safety Training presented by DEHS. To register go to:

http://www.dehs.umn.edu/training_labsafety.htm

If you take the in-person training you will receive a certificate, a copy of which should be given to Chuck Tomlinson, 139 Smith Hall. Again, a record of your training will be kept in the central PeopleSoft data base.

If you have any questions contact Chuck or Robin. Thanks.
