DePARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY FELLOWSHIP FOR DIVERSITY
IN GRADUATE STUDIES
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota recognizes
that diverse viewpoints and experiences make its overall Graduate Program
stronger. To encourage applications from groups traditionally
underrepresented in the sciences we will offer a fellowship to a student
entering the Chemistry or Chemical Physics Ph.D. program in the Fall
of 2010.
Support: A 25% Graduate Assistantship
for the 2011-2012 academic year, paid at the Department of Chemistry’s
standard rate plus a $5,000 bonus payment. Note that this appointment
reduces the student’s teaching load to <10 hours/week in their
first year. A Teaching Assistantship will be offered to cover the
remaining 25% appointment bringing the total stipend (including bonus)
to $28,500. This includes a competitive benefits program with full
tuition reimbursement and subsidized medical insurance bringing the total
value of the reimbursement package to approximately $42,000.
Eligibility. This program is open
to U.S. citizens or permanent residents from underrepresented groups
entering the Chemistry or Chemical Physics Ph.D. program at the University
of Minnesota in the Fall of 2011. Groups traditionally underrepresented
in the sciences include: African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native
Americans, Alaskan Natives, Hawaiian Natives, and Natives of the US Pacific
Islands. Students with disabilities or those that come from economically
disadvantaged families or communities are also eligible and are encouraged
to apply. Students that already hold a major award that covers >25%
of their appointment for the 2011-12 academic year are not eligible
for this award.
Application: Students should send an
e-mail to chmapply@umn.edu indicating
their eligibility for this award.
Due Date: Jan. 5, 2011
Note: The University of Minnesota works
hard to provide a diverse and supportive environment for all of our students,
regardless of their background. More information about the Office
of Diversity in Graduate Education at the University of Minnesota (including
